A Pre-Schooler's Grocery List

My 4 year old likes to go grocery shopping with me, which is cool.

My 4 year old likes to touch everything in the store and can't be still or listen while in the store, which isn't cool.

I needed something to keep him occupied so I don't have to call a Wal-Mart employee (again) to clean up jars of busted baby food.

Thank you Publix Pre-School Pals! When I glanced through this quarter's flier, they had some ideas for getting your kids involved in the kitchen and cooking. One of their ideas was to give your child a grocery list at the store that they can check off when items go in the buggy. What a brilliant idea! Why hadn't I thought of something like this sooner?!

I easily created the following grocery list in about 20 minutes in Microsoft Word. I then slipped the sheet into a clear sheet protector (thanks to a good friend for the gift!) that he can color on with a dry erase crayon.

Voila!

He is already excited about going to the grocery store...now I just have to remember to grab some dry erase crayons and the new grocery list the next time we head out.

By the way, I did try to put the grocery list up here to share so anyone could download it and use it but I couldn't figure out how to upload it. It is a PDF file from Adobe. If you can help me with this please leave me a message or email me!

Cousins Rock!

That's what my son and my cousin's daughter apparently thought this evening!

We drove up from our hotel in LaGrange to Carrollton to meet my cousin Joyce and her daughter Madison for dinner at Applebees and then spend some time at their home. It was so great to see Joyce again; I don't think we've seen each other in almost six years (since my wedding). We were close friends growing up, sending letters back and forth all the time (yes...LETTERS...this was before email and a disappearing art I believe). Our children hit it off with no problem and kept us laughing the entire time!

Some classic lines this evening:

Madison: Does he eat people food??

Madison: Hey! Listen to this!!

Logan also decided that it was more fun to lay in the crayons and wiggle in them than to color with them. Well, to each his own I suppose. As soon as I'm home I'll try to upload some pictures; got some cute ones.

I am just so happy to finally get the chance to see my cousin again and I am determined that it will NOT be another 5 years!! I really want our kids to be as good friends as we were growing up.

Yay for Spring!

Well, I had my snow. It was fun and pretty. Now I am more than glad that spring is here! Yesterday was gorgeous here...70s. I love being able to open my windows - even if that means some sneezing!! That's one thing I'm not looking forward to...everything being yellow for a few months. I noticed some yellow along the edges of a rain puddle just a little while ago....it has begun already.

JJ got his new truck. Yay. I had hoped for a Toyota mini-van but once he got his bass boat he just HAD to have something that could pull it. Sigh. It is a nice truck (Chevy Silverado 1500, 4 door crew cab) and I am looking forward to going fishing.

I have been getting some sub work which is a blessing (and Logan is doing great at the baby-sitter we found). If I keep getting a couple days a week I should have enough money saved to go to England in the fall, which is my ultimate goal. Ahhh...England...I want to go back so bad and I'm determined to see more historic sites outside of London this time around. My tentative itinerary:

1. London - Westminster Abbey, the Tower, Madame Tussades
2. Hampton Court Palace
3. Windsor Castle
4. York - York Minster, Jorvik Viking Center, etc
5. Bosworth Field

Yes, I am a complete nerd. While in York I would love to be able to travel to Middleham where Richard III lived but I just don't think I'll have the time or money. I also need to find out where I could get some white roses to take to Bosworth...I want to put them at Richard III's monument. I fully plan on avoiding chain hotels and staying in B&Bs and small, local hotels. I've already begun my research into that!

Now to find someone to go with me!!

Where's my vitamin C??

Apparently its easier for me to post about historical fictions, books, book reviews, and the like than it is about normal, everyday things. Hehe.

Anyway, Johnny is sick...ear infection AND sinus infection. Logan still is coughing (though its JUST a cold the doc said). I am sure at this rate I'll wake up Christmas morning sick. Must drink lots of vitamin C!!!

We did manage to get MOST of the Christmas lights up outside and the tree inside. Sure does look all purdy-like! Sat down today to figure out who is getting what pictures of Logan for Christmas presents this year and what all I have to bake for presents as well. Yes, Christmas is going to be small and as inexpensive as I can possibly get it this year. Depressing, I know.

I did finally get all the substitute teaching stuff squared away...just waiting for something in the mail I was told. Guess we'll see. The money sure would be nice right now. Still hoping for a trip to England in the spring!!

Yay!!! SITB1

Oh! What is SITB1??? Easy...

Sleeping In Toddler Bed + the number of nights we've done it!!! Yay!!!!

Yes...little man FINALLY slept in his toddler bed last night. I did have to sit next to it for about an hour waiting for him to fall asleep though! I knew if I got up and left before he was out he'd hop up out of that bed and get into something. :)

I'm so proud of my little man! I was going to take him to the park today but of course it decided to rain. Oh well!

What a long week...

After being at Disney for a week, we drove home on Thursday only to turn around and leave Friday for Warm Springs, Georgia for a wedding on Saturday. I can't remember the last time I was this tired.

So here I sit, staring at over a week's worth of stuff from two trips piled up in my kitchen, living room, and my bedroom...and I have to start unpacking and cleaning it all myself tomorrow...as the hubby heads back to work.

To top everything off, little man came down with a bad cold on the way home from Disney and it hit me yesterday evening during the wedding. JJ seems to have caught it as well. Right now I'm about to take some more Advil Sinus (which isn't supposed to make you drowsy but I'm so small it knocks me out anyway), curl up under the covers (fall temps arrived here in Georgia while I was in Florida! love it!), and read until I fall asleep (or The Next Iron Chef starts, whichever comes first).

But Disney was wonderful!

10 days to go!!

So the Richmond trip was nice. Johnny and I flew into Regan International in DC (where it did take a ridiculous amount of time to get our rental from Budget...horrible customer service) and then drove down to Richmond. I did see the Washington Monument and the Pentagon as we drove by!

Our hotel was nice and we had fun playing with the GPS system we rented with the car. It helped us find something interesting to do Saturday before the race - we went to the Museum of the Confederacy and took a tour of the White House of the Confederacy. Pretty interesting.

Then...it rained. Luckily not enough to cancel the race but it delayed the start. Our seats were good (right at the exit from the pits) and we weren't completely surrounded by smokers (there were only a couple in the vicinity so the smoke didn't make me sick). Then the race....this is usually a very exciting race. Not the case Saturday night. What a disappointment. I really am hating the new cars...they've taken the fun and excitement out of all the races.

Anyway, now that we're home we have Logan's 2nd birthday party this Saturday. Yay! We're doing a Sesame Street party this year since he's fallen in love with Elmo. Its so cute.

THEN...

We leave on the 27th for Disney! I am so excited!! I can not wait to see Logan's reaction to the Park. We're also going to Sea World and I think Johnny is more excited about that (or maybe its the bass fishing trip he's going to take one day?). I am absolutely bouncing off the walls in excitement!!

Fingers Crossed...

SO...

Spoke to the lady about pre-k at the church today. Hoping to get Logan in there and at a discounted rate. I really want him to start getting some interaction with other kids. I've got fingers crossed and sending prayers upstairs hoping something wonderful will happen. We can't afford it otherwise.
